Visu is a program paired with Ball State University’s David Owsley Museum of Art to aid the hearing disabled with navigating the museum. I got the idea from my cousin, who has had limited hearing since we were children. I decided to research hearing disabilities, find what hard of hearing people struggled with, and work to remedy those problems within DOMA. Many visual aspects of Visu were inspired by my research. I found that ASL is more easily read in brightly lit places, leading me to use more contrast. Cochlear implants and hearing aids influenced the rounded shapes and logo. My audience for this program is primarily people who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Visu program is geared towards displaying information visually and making slight alterations to lighting within DOMA to assist this demographic.
