A food truck for the Brau Haus was a chance for me to expand my research beyond my computer screen and personally connect with the subject to tie modern graphics with Old-World ideas, conveying a sense of trust and history in something as fleeting as a food truck. Before beginning I took a walk around Oldenburg, Indiana to gather reference. I incorporated the blackletter type from all over the town into the design, as well as the colors of the Brau Haus building. People familiar with Oldenburg’s aesthetic would recognize the style immediately, while those unfamiliar with the Brau Haus will get an idea of the Old-World influence in the truck’s design. I believe that as homestyle restaurants slowly give way to fast food, food trucks may be a way of expanding into the fast food market.
