The characters I created for the Neoleaf project are simple vegetable people, each one correlating to a different kind of plant. They are a recognizable branding asset while still maintaining variety in the numerous deliverables. They provide a face for the company and are simple characters that both children and adults can connect with. I created their base form first, sketching ideas until I had a structure to base them all on. Then I researched the vegetables they would be based on, studying the plants for features I could incorporate into the corresponding character. Their hair comes from the plants’ leaves, while their color is derived from the color of the vegetables themselves. Randall the radish has a goatee resembling a radish’s root, and Pip and Pep the peas wear a pea pod as a hat. Each character is different, providing people with plenty of chances to relate to one of Neoleaf’s mascots.
